Shelter for People with AIDS. Not Shelter for Taxes.

Yes, Saul Goodman was in the streets.

The one thing I will miss about this company is its relentless advocacy. Actually… I will still be volunteering for this agency even after my last day.

I guess I’m going to miss getting paid to protest and advocate on behalf of the less fortunate.

Did you know that New York City has the highest population of people living with HIV and AIDS in this country? You might think this is disgusting, but that’s only because you’re an ignorant prick. Americans from all over the country move here because NYC has the best health services and housing for people living with the virus.

Unfortunately, it’s still not enough. Our state legislature is not concerned with streamline the excess bureaucracy of Medicaid, so it can be properly funded. It’s not concerned with expanding the scope of the HIV/AIDS Services Administration (HASA) beyond the city to all of the state. Or easing requirements of the HASA, so people are getting sicker to get an AIDS diagnosis.

Instead, it is more concerned with lowering taxes on Wall Street so the banks that put all of us IN THIS MESS don’t run to New Jersey.

Interesting story: As my colleagues and I were walking in protest, a banker saw our agency signs and walked towards us. He complained that he was gay and he supported our company (because we also fight for the rights of the gay community). He was a banker though, and he needed to make a living. He said he would no longer be making his yearly thousands dollar donation to our agency anymore.

Our CEO thanked him.

Letter of Resignation

Another day at work.

• Him: So are you single?
• lionofbedstuy: Yeah, still looking for the right GIRL. I'll find HER eventually.
• Him: Oh... [30 minutes later...] ...So I guess you're the only straight guy on the team?
• lionofbedstuy: Yeah pretty much.

Lunchtime.

• Lesbian Co-Worker: What you trying to eat?
• lionofbedstuy: Vagina.
• Lesbian Co-Worker: True... me too... we're probably the only ones in this office.

• Lesbian Co-Worker: Pretty much why we always go to lunch together.

They figured I’d try to take it and wouldn’t even let me hold it.

There was a genuine respect for the causes we were marching for.

People would walk out of buildings, stop, and salute us. Many would take pictures, and some even joined in our chants.

I marched in all around Midtown Manhattan to the United Nations building. We marched to demand that world leaders keep their promise to do whatever is necessary to achieve universal access for HIV/AIDS throughout the world.

We demanded:

• Full funding to end AIDS.
• Respect for the human rights of all people.
• 15 million people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHAs) on AIDS treatment by 2015.
• An end to trade deals that put profits and patents ahead of lives.
• Adoption of the International Declaration on Poverty, HIV/AIDS and Housing Instability.
• Cutting Tuberculosis infections among PLWHAs by at least 50%.
• Eliminatiom of new HIV infections from IV drug use and mother to child transmission.
• Reduction of HIV infections via sex by 50%.

It was hot as hell. I’m tired.

He’s 89 years old. Why hasn’t anyone asked if he’s suffering from dementia?
